LAERI Research & Policy Seminar 05/31/24: The Use of Online Courses for High School Credit Recovery: Effectiveness, Costs, and Experiences

The Los Angeles Education Research Institute (LAERI) hosted a virtual Research & Policy seminar on credit recovery by Dr. Jordan Rickles and Dr. Margaret Clements, who at the time were principal and senior researchers at American Institutes for Research (AIR). Dr. Carol Alexander, LAUSD’s Director of A-G Intervention and Support, facilitated the discussion of this research.

The presenters reviewed findings from their seven-year study of online credit recovery in Los Angeles high schools, conducted in partnership with LAUSD. The findings provide evidence about the effectiveness of a specific online model, the relative costs of implementing the model, challenges teachers experienced supporting the online course, and student perspectives on the experience.
