Accessing the LAERI Server

Click through each tab of this module for step by step instructions on how to connect to the LAERI server. For any questions, please email LAERI staff at laeri@g.ucla.edu.

Username and Password

You will need a username and password to access the LAERI server. You should have received an email from laeri@ucla.edu with the subject line “LAERI: Server Login Information.” This email contains your username and a temporary password.

If you did not receive an email with your username and password, please email the LAERI staff.

Setting up DUO

LAERI uses DUO, a dual-factor authentication software, to restrict access to the server. You will need to install the DUO application on your phone and set up your account.

Installing the DUO App

You should have received an email from no-reply@duosecurity.com with the subject line “Luskin SPPSR Duo Security Enrollment.” Click on the link provided in the email and follow the instructions.

If you did not receive an email about your DUO account, please email the LAERI staff.

Setting up VPN (UCLA Affiliates)

Setting up the VPN (UCLA Affiliates)

You will need to access the LAERI server over a secure connection. UCLA affiliates can use the same UCLA VPN they use to access the library and other university services. Below are instructions for installing and connecting to the UCLA VPN.

Downloading the VPN Client

If you have not installed a VPN client, you can download the software from the UCLA IT Support Center. Once you’ve downloaded a VPN client, follow the UCLA IT instructions to set up your VPN access.

Logging on to the Server (UCLA Affiliates)

PC Users

1. Open remote Desktop Connection: Remote Desktop Connection is preinstalled on PCs using the Windows operating system. You will not need to install any additional software.
2. Enter the Computer Name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
3. Enter Your Username: Click “Show Options.” Then, enter ccpr and your username (e.g. ccprlaeri). Next, click “Connect.”
4. Enter Your Password: When prompted, enter your password.
5. Accept the LAERI Data Security Agreement: Click “Ok.”
6. Send a DUO Push to Your Phone: Click “Send Me a Push.”
7. Approve the DUO Push: Click “Approve” when DUO prompts you to authenticate the push from the server.

Mac Users

1. Download and Install Remote Desktop Connection: You can download Remote Desktop for free from the Apple Store .
2. Add a New Connection: Click “Add PC.”
3. Add the LAERI Server: Add “laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu” as PC Name (UCLA Affiliates), and “No gateway configured” for gateway.
4. Enter Your Username and Password: Select “Add User Account.” For your username, enter ccpr and your username (e.g., ccprlaeri). Then enter your password.
5. Connect to the Server: Select “Add” to close the “Add PC” window and double click the PC you just created.
6. Accept the LAERI Data Security Agreement: Click “Ok.”
7. Send a DUO Push to Your Phone: Click “Send Me a Push.”
8. Approve the DUO Push: Click “Approve” when DUO prompts you to authenticate the push from the server.

Logging on to the Server (Non-UCLA Affiliates)

PC Users

1. Open remote Desktop Connection: Remote Desktop Connection is preinstalled on PCs using the Windows operating system. You will not need to install any additional software.
2. Enter the Computer Name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
3. Enter Your Username: Click “Show Options.” Then, enter ccpr and your username (e.g. ccprlaeri). Next, click “Connect.”
4. Configure the Remote Gateway: Click “Advanced.” Then, click “Settings” and select “Use these RD Gateway server settings.” Enter the server name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu and select “Ask for password” for the logon method. Select “Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses.” Then, select “Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer” and click “OK.”
5. Enter Your Password: When prompted, enter your password.
6. Accept the LAERI Data Security Agreement: Click “Ok.”
7. Send a DUO Push to Your Phone: Click “Send Me a Push.”
8. Approve the DUO Push: Click “Approve” when DUO prompts you to authenticate the push from the server.

Mac Users

1. Install Remote Desktop Connection: You can download Remote Desktop for free from the Apple Store .

5. Connect to the Server: Select “Add” to close the “Add PC” window and double click the PC you just created.
6. Accept the LAERI Data Security Agreement: Click “Ok.”
7. Send a DUO Push to Your Phone: Click “Send Me a Push.”
8. Approve the DUO Push: Click “Approve” when DUO prompts you to authenticate the push from the server.

Having Trouble Connecting?

If you are having trouble connecting, check the following:

Are you connected to the internet?
Are you connected to the VPN?
Did you enter the computer name correctly?
Did you enter your username correctly?
Did you receive a push from DUO?
Did you accept the push from DUO?

If you are still unable to connect to the server, email the LAERI staff. Please describe the problem you are encountering in detail and include screenshots of any error messages you received in your email.

PC Users

4. Configure the Gateway: Click the plus sign in the bottom left corner of the window to create a new gateway and enter the gateway information.
  Gateway Name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
  Server: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
  Username: ccpr.ucla.edu
  Password:
  
  Then, click the red “x” to close the window. In the open window, enter the following information.
  Connection Name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
  PC Name: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
  Gateway: laerivm-1.ccpr.ucla.edu
  Username: ccpr.ucla.edu
  Password:
5. Connect to the Server: Close the “Edit Remote Desktops” window (the computer information is automatically saved) and double click the computer name.
6. Accept the LAERI Data Security Agreement: Click “Ok.”
7. Send a DUO Push to Your Phone: Click “Send Me a Push.”
8. Approve the DUO Push: Click “Approve” when DUO prompts you to authenticate the push from the server.
